James Harrell - 1 Million Mile Driver

Picture
James Harrell, from Hawkinsville, Georgia, has driven for CalArk for 8 years and has a total of 16 years' driving experience. He works on the board of Ronnie Moore, who describes him as "a good guy to work with" who "always has a smile on his face." Director of Safety Leslie Stout says he's "receptive and positive" and "someone with whom she genuinely enjoys working."

James' former driver manager, Shane Perryman, added that "if James trusts you, he will do whatever it takes to get the job done for you." Sometimes the job is stressful and drivers will get upset, but Shane said James will get off the phone and cool down before he will ever say anything cross to anyone. James has been asked to do many things he didn’t necessarily want to do, but he always does them above and beyond what is expected.

When James is not driving, he likes to be home spending time with his family. He also likes fishing, grilling out, and going to church. When asked what advice he would offer fellow drivers on how to be successful, he said to just "do your job, pay attention, and obey the laws."

We're so happy to show our appreciation for James, a fine example of the best CalArk drivers who work so hard to get their miles and keep the wheels of American business turning.

Carl Sparlin has been with CalArk since 2011, and has 20 years of driving experience prior to CalArk in a sand tanker. Carl is from Conway, AR, is on Michelle Finn’s board, has been married to Viktoria for 26 years, and has two sons. When he is not driving, he likes to cook, work on his Kawasaki Vulcan (with which he is obsessed!), do home improvement projects, and watch Blue Bloods.

He also is a Navy veteran, so ask him to tell you how he got the nickname "Duck." Among other awards Carl has received in his CalArk career are Driver of the Year Runner Up in 2015 and 2017, 100% On-Time Delivery each year, and his 5-Year Service award. Carl represents CalArk each year at the Arkansas Truck Driving Championship and works as a driver trainer for new drivers.

When asked what he would tell new drivers on how to be successful, Carl said, “Never quit, and strive to be the best. That way if you ever come up short, you are still among the best. Shoot for the stars, and if you fall, you will still catch the moon.”

CalArk loves celebrating drivers like Carl who keep the wheels of American business in motion. Thank you for putting in so many miles. We appreciate you!

Herbert Wolfe - 1 Million Miles

After only 10 years with CalArk, Herbert Wolfe has accumulated a million safe miles and works with Kayla Redd as his dispatcher extraordinaire. Previously a driver for another company since 1990, he's nearing 20 years as a driver, a profession we know takes a lot of mental strength and spatial intelligence.

From London, Kentucky, Herbert has three kids (including his two stepchildren) and six grandkids. When not driving, he likes to watch Duck Dynasty and Criminal Minds, also enjoying going to church with his sisters Georgia, Anna, and Bonnie.

He's earned other awards, such as 100% on-time delivery, a 5-year service award, and safe driving mile awards 100K to 900K before hitting his well-earned million miles last week. His advice for other drivers looking to succeed is to know your limits and take your time.

We're grateful, here at CalArk, that Herbert has spent his time and energy helping our business and American commerce thrive. Thank you for everything you do!

Queen of the Highway Retires

We're always sad to lose a member of the family, and CalArk driver Alexis Pohl and her teammate/husband Liam have long been familiar faces around CalArk headquarters.

Born in Hamburg, West Germany, Alexis moved to Virginia with her family at age 8. She joined the US Navy at 20 and rose to Petty Officer First Class (E-6) during her 12 years of service. She met her husband Liam (who later retired Chief Petty Officer (E-7)) while they were stationed on the USS Emory S. Land.

After earning her CDL and a brief stint with another company, Alexis read about CalArk in a trucking magazine and joined our family in December 1995. Liam has acted as trip planner, navigator, and support team member since 1996.

They've volunteered in the creation of Canadian border crossing procedures and to deliver wreaths for the Wreaths Across America program. She's been featured on the cover of Arkansas Trucking and in the article "The Road Is Calling." She was the 2008 Arkansas Trucking Association Dirver of the Year.

Often referred to as "Our Queen of the Highway" by other Central and CalArk drivers, she's a team member on the CalArk Driver Committee.

She's gotten a 100% on-time delivery award every year since 2003, and a 2.75-million-mile safe miles award in 2016. She's retiring only 85,000 miles short of 3 million miles with us. Through all those met-deadlines and traveled miles, she has ZERO preventable accidents on her record.

We hate to see Alexis and Liam go, but we're grateful for everything they've given to steer the way with CalArk over the decades they've shared with us. All the best to you as you move to the next stage of your lives!
