Traction Instructions 6 x 2 Operations

10/13/2015

The following instructions have been developed by Central Maintenance and the tractor manufacturer to help provide drivers with some helpful tips to improve traction during inclement weather.  If you ever have any questions pertaining to traction, give Central Maintenance a call and they will provide an answer or locate someone to answer your questions.

Tractor 7800 Series 2014 International and 7900 Series 2015 International

Additional Traction Operation

When conditions demand additional traction this vehicle is equipped with a differential lock and rear suspension air release to lower the rear suspension to allow the rear axle weight to be shifted to the front drive axle.

To engage this system, depress the lock diff switch located above the radio.  This will engage the diff lock and lower the suspension.  This system should be engaged anytime additional traction is required.  Once the truck is driven to a speed of 26 mph the system will return back to normal operation without any interaction from the driver.  The only thing that is required is that when the green light begin to flash, turn off the switch.

When would I use this option?
  •  Hooking or unhooking from a trailer.
  • Going into a wet gravel or uneven yard.
  • Adverse road conditions, snow, slush, ice.

Moving the 5th wheel forward to put more weight on drive/steer axle will also help where conditions permit.

Additional Traction Operation

When conditions demand additional traction this vehicle is equipped with a differential lock and rear suspension air release to lower the rear suspension to allow the rear axle weight to be shifted to the front drive axle.

To engage this system depress the black Bendix valve left of the camera monitor.  This will engage the diff lock and lower the suspension.  This system should be engaged anytime additional traction is required.  Once the truck is driven and 6th gear is obtained, the valve will pop back out and normal operation will resume.  This function will work in a forward or reverse gear.
